Happy birthday SMS

Computerworld has a nice little article on the origins of SMS and reminds us that it is the 20th anniversary of SMS on Dec. 3rd. It's a day like this we should remember : " [SMS] connects more people than Facebook and Twitter, has brought down governments, and in so much of the world still holds the ability to change lives."

And to make sure we don't abuse this old digital marketing platform I refer to an article on SMS advertising done right. They highlight 5 rules of thumb and offer corresponding examples:

1. Relevancy and timing are crucial
2. Include a specific call to action
3. Have a conversation with customers
4. Measure results and learn what works
5. Allow people to easily unsubscribe

So long live SMS (until the next disruptive technology) and Happy texting everyone!
