The data pinterest is reporting about the demographic
makeup and growth of its user base
increasingly support the notion that Pinterest is a medium that should be
pursued as part of a Search Engine Optimization strategy. The search engine
team at searchenginewatch.com conducted an experiment to test link equity
generated by pinterest pins, and found that even a light or moderate usage
Pinterest profile generated traffic, and created "social buzz, and more
visibility for the site overall."
They created a Pinterest account for a link with little
equity and two recipe links. There observations were intriguing: " Within
one week of pinning to the Pinterest wall, the site accumulated over 150
links."
While searchenginewatch.com cited many benefits to
Pinterest use, the most compelling is its ability to buttress a SEO strategy
for less established brands by "inject[ing] some fresh content and new
social citation for your site."
