Skydiver Baumgartner sets YouTube live view record

When skydiver, Felix Baumgartner, jumped from a capsule 24 miles above the earth, breaking several records, including highest freefall, the event also broke several digital records.

From the article, "More than eight million people flocked to their devices to watch the 43-year-old break the speed of sound live on Google's YouTube site.  It is the largest number of concurrent live streams in the website's history, Google UK confirmed to the BBC."

Instead of watching historical events on traditional TV, such as the historic Apollo 11 mission which placed astronauts on the moon, viewers tuned into a live feed via Google's Youtube website.  As live events continue to shift towards live streaming formats there is a massive digital marketing opportunity to be tapped, particularly through targeted advertising.
